Our Instructors & Staff Members

Our staff members have spent many years devoted to pursuing excellence in their field and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as instructors and trainers.

Through extensive training, certification and dedication, our staff has attained mastery in their fields and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to our members. Here are a few of Bowie Golf & Country Club's staff members:

Fred Ryder , Jr  (GOLF DIRECTOR) As a youngster, Fred grew up in Hot Springs, Va. Moved to Maryland and attended High School at Bladensburg. Fred was an accomplished player in two sports, (football and golf), while attending. In 1968, Fred turned Pro and spent 6 1/2 years as a teaching professional at the Dorado Beach Resort in Puerto Rico. (Home of touring professional Chi Chi Rodriguez). 1974-1976 served as a teaching professional at Belair Golf & Country Club in Bowie, Maryland. 1976-1977 served as a teaching professional at Fort Meade. In 1977, Fred was offered the position of Head Professional of Bowie Golf & Country Club (formally Belair) and is still present today.

Barry Gilbert  (Course Superintendent) Golf Course Superintendent from 1977 - present. Graduated with a degree in Horticulture from the University of Maryland, College Park. Attends 4-6 agronomic and horticulture seminars annually and is a certified Pesticide Applicator with the State of Maryland since 1990. Holds memberships in: Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Mid-Atlantic Association of Golf Course Superintendents, Maryland Turfgrass Council and Bowie Garden Club. Additional Job Related Information: Multiple Distinguished Landscape Awards. Bowie Tree Preservation Committee Consultant. Landscape Design Commercial & Residential Consultant. Landscape Consultant, Hidden Harbor 2, Ocean City, Maryland.

John Huber  (GENERAL MANAGER / PGA Head Professional)  John has provided us with 30 years of loyal service and has recently assumed the responsibilities of General Manager (2013) and will therefore conduct the daily operations of this facility.

James Carson  (Assistant Course Supertendent) Jimmy has been the assistant to the course superintendent for the past 25 years.

David Bedwell  (Pro Shop) DAVID @ DONALD ARE KNOWN AS THE TWINS IN THE PRO SHOP. TAKES A LITTLE TIME TO TELL THEM APART. TIME WILL LET YOU KNOW WHO IS WHO.

Lydia Shrodes  (Food/Beverage Manager) Lydia and her staff keep the glorified snack bar operational. Contact person for golf outing's food/beverage operation. Also famous for her "Bloody Mary's".

Donald Bedwell Donald Bedwell has numerous credentials and accomplishments. We will be updating this section shortly to detail them.

ANDREW WILEY  (PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL-1st ASS'T) ANDREW IS A NEW ADDITION TO THE PROFESSIONAL STAFF AT BOWIE GOLF CLUB. ALONG WITH SOME OF THE SERVICES HE WILL PROVIDE TO THE PRO SHOP, HE IS NOW AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE GOLF LESSONS TO ALL PLAYER'S, FROM BEGINNER'S TO EXPERIENCED, ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS, GROUP OR CLINIC. BECAUSE OF HIS DEMAND FOR LESSON'S, YOU MUST CALL FOR SCHEDULING.
